Türkler tarih boyunca çeşitli alfabeler kullandı. Müslümanlıktan sonra Arap alfabesini alıp Türkçe’ye uyarladık. 1928’deki harf devrimine kadar bu alfabe ile yazıp okuduk. Bin yıllık bir kültür birikimimiz bu alfabe ile kayıtlara geçti.
“Osmanlıca” ismi yaygın olarak kullanılmakla birlikte doğru bir adlandırma değildir. Selçuklular devrinde de aynı yazıyı kullanıyorduk ama hiçbir zaman “Selçukluca” kelimesi sürümde olmadı.
Osmanlıca ile kastedilen Türkçe’nin Arap/Osmanlı harfleriyle yazılan şeklidir. Halkımız vaktiyle doğru ismi bulmuştu, bu yazıya “eski Türkçe” deniyordu. Alfabe için de öyleydi “eski yazı” denirdi. Latin asıllı Türk alfabesi ise “yeni yazı” idi.
Batı dünyası bilimde ve teknolojide ilerlerken biz geriledik. Çağı yakalayabilmek için Tanzimat’tan itibaren bir takım yenilikler yapıldı. Amaç Batı’nın seviyesine ulaşmaktı. Cumhuriyet’le birlikte Batılılaşma hız kazandı, nihayet 1928’de harf devrimi yapıldı.
Çok sert ve tavizsiz uygulanan alfabe değişikliği, ciddi bir kültür kopukluğuna yol açtı. Sonraki dönemlerde şöyle eleştiriler yöneltildi: Keşke daha iyi bir hazırlık yapılsaydı ve harf devrimi zamana yayılsaydı dendi. Yeni harflerin dilimizdeki bütün sesleri ifadede yetersiz olduğu söylendi ki, gerçekten öyledir.
Aradan 86 yıl geçti, yeni harfler yerleşti bundan geri dönüşün imkanı da yoktur, gereği de. Gerekli olan nedir? Bin yıllık kültür hazinemizin eski harfli eserleriyle tanışmak, onları doğru okuyacak anahtarı elde etmek. Bunun yolu eğitim öğretimden geçer. Eski Türkçe’nin/ Osmanlıca’nın öğretilmesi lüzumu, aklı başında bilim ve fikir adamları tarafından çoktandır söylenir.
Bu defa liselerde okutulması gündeme gelince bir kıyamettir koptu. Mevcut iktidara karşı olanlar inatçı bir yaygara koparıyorlar. Oysa konu politik kaygıların üstünde ve önemli bir kültür meselesidir. Bin yıllık yazılı birikimimize daha kolay ulaşma konusudur.
Bence bu ders liselerde seçimlik olmalıdır. Herkesi mecbur etmenin alemi yoktur. Merakı olan öğrenmelidir. Ders konunca bugünden yarına şakır şakır eski Türkçe öğrenileceği sanılmasın. Önce süratle bu dersi okutacak elemanlar yetiştirilmelidir. Seçilecek hevesli öğretmenler hızlandırılmış bir kurstan geçirilerek bu sağlanabilir. Arap harflerini tanıyan veya Kur’an okumasını bilen herkes eski Türkçe öğretemez.
Okullarımızdaki yabancı dil öğretimi başarısızdır. Eski Türkçe/ Osmanlıca derslerinde de benzer sonuçla karşılaşırız endişesini taşıyorum. Ama bu arada yeter derecede merakı ve ilgisi olanların, matbaada basılmış eski yazılı kitapları okuyacak seviyeye gelmeleri mümkündür.
