İnci Hanım’ın Menemen Tapu Dairesi’ne ödenecek küçük bir vergi borcu vardı (17 küsur lira). Bunu ödemek için Cumaovası’ndan otobüsle yola çıktı, İzmir’de İZBAN’a bindi; Menemen’e varınca Tapu dairesinin yerini öğrendi ve başvurusunu yaptı. Borç bankaya ödenecekti.
Uygulanan sisteme göre, sırası gelen kimsenin telefonuna mesaj gönderiliyordu, orada uzun süre beklemek gerekmiyordu. İnci Hanım Tapu’dan ayrıldı, karşı tarafta bir pastaneye girdi. Bir simit bir de çay söyledi. Simidini yedi, çayını içti.
Gözü masanın üzerindeki telefonundaydı, hah tamam, mesaj gelmişti. Ama öğle tatili yaklaşmıştı, 15-20 dakikası vardı. O telaşla hızla yerinden kalktı, bankaya koştu. Gişenin önünde sıra bekleyenlere öncelik tanımaları için rica etti, telefonundaki mesajı gösterdi. Kendisini üst kata yönlendirdiler. Çıkıp vergisini ödedi.
Oh, iş bitmiş rahatlamıştı. İZBAN trenine atlayıp İzmir’e oradan da otobüsle Cumaovası’na döndü.
HELAL LOKMA
Birkaç gün sonra hatırına geldi ki, o hengame sırasında aceleden dolayı simit ve çay parasını ödemeden fırlayıp çıkmıştı.
Hay Allah, ne yapacaktı!.. İnci Hanım hak hukuk bilen, kursağına helal lokma dışında bir şey sokmayan bir anlayışa sahipti. Ne yapıp edip borcunu ödemeliydi. Çaresiz, gene Menemen yolu göründü. Bu yolculuk indi bindisiyle, iki buçuk gidiş, iki buçuk dönüş toplam 5 saat sürüyordu.
O bunu göze aldı, önce otobüs, sonra İZBAN, tekrar Menemen’e gitti. Söz konusu pastaneye vardı, meseleyi anlattı: “Ben falan gün burada çay ve simit istedim. Fakat telaşla ve aceleyle kalktığım için borcumu ödemeyi unuttum. Kusura bakmayın şimdi parayı ödemeye geldim.”
Oradaki görevli şaşırdı “Abla” dedi, “Neye o kadar zahmete girdiniz, bir çay simit parası için o kadar yolu kat etmeye ne gerek vardı!” İnci Hanım’a göre gerek vardı; borç borçtu, büyüğü küçüğü olmazdı. Görevini yapmış olmanın huzuruyla oradan ayrıldı.
YAŞATMAK
Evvel zamanda ülkenin padişahı haksız yere, bir adamın idam edilmesine karar verir. Adam iftiraya uğramış ve padişaha yanlış bilgi verilmiştir. İdam sehpası kurulur. Halk, vezirler ve padişah gelir. İdam edilecek kişiye son sözü sorulur. Adam der ki: “Padişah haksız yere beni idam ettiriyor. İnşallah o da benden beter olur, cehennemi boylar.”
Padişah vezirlerine “Ne dedi?” diye sorar. Vezirlerden biri: “Padişahımıza yanlış bilgi verdiler, yok yere günaha girdi, Allah affetsin” dedi diye cevap verir. Padişah da insafa gelip adamın canını bağışlar. Fakat diğer vezir atılır ve: “Padişahım, veziriniz yalan söylüyor. Adam sizin için beddua etti” der.
Bunun üzerine padişah der ki: “Yaşatmak için onun söylediği yalan, öldürtmek için senin söylediğin doğrudan daha iyidir.”
