Ege çocuğu Neyzen Tevfik (1880- 1953) devrinin bir entellektüelidir. Kesintili de olsa iyi bir eğitim aldığı görülüyor. Türkçe’yi çok iyi konuşur ve yazar. Arapça, Farsça, Fransızca bilir. Ama derbeder. İstikrarsız, Aykırı bir kişiliğe sahip.
Aykırı Bir Kişilik
Kendisi, bunalımları olan biridir. Bu sebeple ruh hali çok çabuk değişir. Kimi zaman çok durgun, sessiz, karamsar ve mutsuzken kimi zamanda çok hareketli, esprili ve neşelidir. Hastalığı hayatının ilerleyen yıllarında alkolizm ile birleşerek daha yıkıcı bir hale gelir.
Çok çabuk sinirlenir ve böyle zamanlarda duyulmadık küfürler eder, keyfi yerinde olduğu zamanlarda ise hoş sohbettir. “Küfür lisanın tuzu biberidir” der. Çok çabuk darılır. İstekleri yerine getirilmediğinde küsüp gider.
Üstün bir konuşma yeteneğine sahiptir. Kendi üslubuyla giriştiği sohbetleri keyifle dinlenir. Hazırcevap biri olduğu için insanları bazen şaşırtan bazen güldüren sözleriyle her zaman ilgi çekmiştir.
Allah vergisi bir musiki dehası var. Bir ney virtüözü. Okuduğu medreseler ona pek itibar etmezler. Ama toplumun başka kesimleri iyi karşılar, onu el üstünde tutarlar. Hayatın akışı içinde musiki var, bu sebeple hep ilgi görür. Tevfik Alkolik ve derbederdir. Ama neyi ve sanatı onu tolere ettirir. Hoş karşılanır.
Aykırıların Eğitimi
Önemli bir soru: Aykırı ve marjinal ama cevherli kimseleri nereye koyacağız? Onları yok olup gitmekten nasıl kurtaracağız? Neyzen Tevfik’in babası hayalleri olan bir kimse. Oğlunu okutup yetiştirmek için her çareye baş vurur. Ama Tavfik aykırı bir çocuk. Kaydolduğu lisede tutunamaz, okul disiplinini kaldıramaz ve okulu bırakır.
Tam bu noktada İzmir Mevlevihanesi imdada yetişir. Tevfik oraya devam etmeye başlar. Burası ona ona ilaç gibi gelir, adeta bir rehabilitasyon yuvası olur. Musiki ilgisi, içindeki sanat kabiliyetleri gelişir.
Okullar ve medreseler daha kuralcı idi. Farklı ve aykırı kişilikleri barındıramazlardı. Ama tekkeler öyle değildi. Gelen kişinin mizacına ve ruh yapısına göre eğitim verirlerdi. Böylece birçok değerli kimsenin topluma kazandırılmasını sağldılar.
Mevlevi-Bektaşi
Neyzen Tevfik’in huzur bulduğu yerler Mevlevihaneler ve Bektaşi dergahları olmuştur. Şöyle der: “Meyde Bektaşi göründüm neyde oldum Mevlevi.” Ekler: “Meşrebim Molla-yı Rumi, mezhebim Bektaşidir.”
Maddeye önem vermez. Eline çok para geçmiştir. Anında dağıtmış veya yeyip içmiştir. Maddi sıkıntısı çok olmuştur.
“Ben paralı olsam, konforlu bir yerde otursam, ne çalabilirim, ne yazabilirim. Acı benim sembolümdür” der. İlave eder: “Hayatımda iki şeye sahip olamadım. Para ve uşak… Paraya sahip olamadım. Çünkü onda saklanacak bir kıymet göremedim.”
Cenaze törenine Vali ve Belediye Başkanı Fahrettin Kerim Gökay, profesörler, tanınmış şair ve yazarlar, saz ve ses sanatçıları ve büyük bir kalabalık katılır. Mezarı başında hem Mevlevi hem Bektaşi usulünce tören yapılır.
