İzmir’in en batısındaki Çeşme ilçesi, limanı, serin havası, berrak denizi ve turistik merkez oluşuyla her geçen gün gelişiyor. Turgut Özal zamanında yapılan otoyol, değerini daha da artırdı. Yarın Çeşme’nin kurtuluş günü.
Tıpkı insanlar gibi, beldelerin de bir maddi bir de manevi yönü vardır. Beldenin manevi yönü tarihi, kültürü, içinde barındırdığı eserler ve değerli kişilere ait izlerde saklıdır. Bu izler oranın tapu belgeleridir.
Maddi kalkınma iyidir, hoştur ama bu arada manevi yön ihmal edilirse, bir şeyler eksik kalır. Bir toprağın sahipliğini devam ettirebilmek için, maddesi ve manasıyla, kültürü ve tarihiyle orayı kucaklamak gerekir. Akif’in dediği gibi:
“Sahipsiz olan memleketin batması haktır / Sen sahip olursan bu vatan batmayacaktır.”
TARİHİ MANEVİ YÖNÜ
Bu topraklar bin yıldır bize aittir ve hep öyle kalacaktır. Anadolu’nun kapısı Türklere 1071 Malazgirt zaferiyle açıldı. Ondan 250 sene sonra Çeşme’yi Bizans’tan aldık. 1400’lerde Osmanlı’ya bağlandı.
Çeşme’de Bizans’tan kalan eserler vardır. Ama Çeşme her şeyiyle artık Türk’tür. Osmanlı yapısı kalesi limana heybetle bakar. Cezayirli Hasan Paşa anıtı, kervansarayı önemli tarihi yapılardır. Ayrıca 16 tarihi çeşmesi dikkati çeker.
Bu çeşmelerden biri Marifi Dergahı Şeyhi Yusuf Efendi Çeşmesi’dir. Marifilik Rifai tarikatinin bir kolu olup, Ege’deki merkezi Manisa’dır. İzmir’de Emir Sultan Rifai Dergahı şeyhlerinin çoğu Manisa’dan icazetlidir. Demek ki bir kolu da Çeşme’ye gitmiş.
Çeşme’deki önemli bir manevi şahsiyet Samut Baba’dır. Evvelce bahsetmiştik. Çeşme’nin fethinde görev almış ve bulunduğu yerde gözcülük yapan bir gazi derviştir. Kabri Çeşme’de Tekke Plajı’nın arkasındaki setin gerisindedir. Türbesinin kubbesi yıkık ve restore edilmeye muhtaçtır, ilgililerin himmetini beklemektedir. Plaj, ismini onun tekkesinden almıştır.
ACI VE MUTLULUK
İzmir’in kurtuluşundan bir hafta sonra ordumuz Çeşme’den Yunanlıları kovdu. Süvari üsteğmen Selahattin Selışık 16 Eylül 1922’de hükümet konağına Türk bayrağını dikti. Selışık, 1956’da orgeneral rütbesiyle Milli Savunma Yüksek Kurulu genel sekreteri olmuştur.
Kurtuluş Savaşı çetin şartlar içinde geçti. Yaşar Aksoy’un ifadesine göre, Selışık 26 Ağustos’tan beri atından inme fırsatı bulamamıştır. Üstündeki elbiseyi değiştirmemiştir ve bir yer yatağında uyumamıştır. Atının üzerinde uyuyarak buralara gelmiştir.
Selışık Çeşme’de Yunan gemilerinin uzaklaştığını bir taşın üzerine oturmuş seyrederken, çizmelerini çıkarıp ayaklarını suya sokmak ister. Güçlükle çıkarılan çizme, ayağının taban derisini de alıp gelir. Tabanın kanlı eti görünür. Ancak üsteğmen; olsun der, ben vatan denizine ayaklarımı sokacağım. Ve ateş gibi yanan ayaklarını Çeşme’nin serin ve tuzlu deniz suyuna daldırır.
